The British Admiralty announced the scuttling of two Kriegsmarine blockade runners Regensburg from the Far East, intercepted by cruisers HMS Adventure and HMS Glasgow.

Eighth Air Force. 118 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers hit port area and Kriegsmarine U-boat base at Lorient while a smaller force strikes the docks and sub pens at Bordeaux. 10 of 11 B-26 Marauder medium bombers of 322d Bomber Group are lost when sent on low-level mission to bomb power stations at Haarlem and Ijmuiden. This mission prompts Eighth Air Force to abandon low-level medium bombers attacks.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons bomb Lido di Roma seaplane base and drop leaflets over Rome.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Gasmata, Dili, Penfoei, and Barique. Single heavy bombers hit Lae, Finschhafen, Gasmata, and Cape Gloucester.

Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-39 fighters and Navy aeroplanes bomb and strafe bivouac and antiaircraft positions in Rekata Bay area.

Eleventh Air Force. Two attempted ground support missions to Attu by 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 5 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and 6 P-38 Lightning fighters are recalled due to weather.
