3 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers groups in United Kingdom (44th,
93d, and 389th) are sent on loan to North Africa for second
time at General Eisenhower's request for support of the crucial
campaign in this theatre.

intersection in Benevento area, and roads and railway facilities

Support Command fighter-bombers maintain continuous sweeps
over Salerno beachhead and surrounding battle zone while other
United States and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) elements
of Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) (fighters,
light bombers, and medium bombers) blast enemy aircraft, motor
transport, troop concentrations and command targets in Contursi
and Eboli areas. United States and British make patrol contact
near Vallo della Lucania. United States Fifth Army ties in
with Taranto invasion force to form Allied line across South
Italy.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers hit road junctions and a supply dump
at Potenza, following The British Royal Air Force (RAF) raid
of previous night.
Fourteenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 12 P-40 fighters hit warehouses,
barracks, ammunition dumps, and Headquarters at Liujenpa.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers, B-26 Marauder medium bombers,
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, and A-20 Havoc light bombers
pound enemy positions at Lae, after which the airfield and
town (evacuated by Japanese) are occupied by Australian forces.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers carry out light strike on Sorong.
