In Australasia. Widespread raids by United States of America
heavy bombers and fighter aircraft on Japanese bases in Solomons
Islands.

Marauder medium bombers attack rail road and highway bridge
across Oued el Akarit, North North West of Gabes. Escorting
P-38 Lightning fighters fight long battle with fighters. 2
medium bombers and 2 P-38 Lightning fighters are shot down.
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers
fly 3 counter-shipping missions North and Northeast off Tunisia,
claiming 1 vessel left in flames. Escorting fighters strafe
trucks and claim 10 aircraft shot down. Fighters fly several
reconnaissance and patrol operations, intercept enemy aeroplanes
attacking airfields in Labasse area, and escort transport
aircraft.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers bomb harbour at Tripoli, scoring hits
on vessels and on shore areas near the harbour. P-40 fighters
fly sweep and fighter-bomber operations as British Eighth
Army begins assault on Buerat line and drive on Tripoli. The
British Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators, under IX Bomber
Command, hit road junction at Tripoli.
Tenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers hit shipping in Rangoon area, claiming
1 vessel sunk and another damaged. 6 P-40 fighters bomb barges
at Bhamo, 6 others bomb Nsopzup, 3 more hit footbridges and
targets at Taihpa Ga, Yupbang Ga, and other points in North
Burma.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20
Havoc light bombers strafe Sanananda Point area as United
States troops envelop pockets along Soputa-Sanananda road.
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb supply dumps at Lae while
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit airfields at Gasmata. B-24
Liberator heavy bombers carry out single-plane attacks on
bridge construction at Wewak and runway at Cape Gloucester.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, P-40 fighters, P-39 fighters,
and P-38 Lightning fighters attack shipping in central Solomons
1 heavy bomber bombs Ballale Island. Other P-39 fighters hit
forces in Guadalcanal battle area and attack vessel off Kolombangara.
Eleventh Air Force. A total of 8 P-38 Lightning fighters,
3 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and a B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers patrol Constantine Harbour, fly reconnaissance over
Kiska, where 1 ship is sighted, and fly negative armed reconnaissance
runs over Attu, the Semichis, and Buldir.
