Twelfth Air Force. XII Bomber Command operations are cancelled
by weather. XII A Support Command and other Northwest African
Tactical Air Force (NATAF) elements (Northwest African Tactical
Bomber Force (NATBF) and Desert Air Force (DAF) operate on
reduced scale, hitting road junctions at Vasto and Fossacesia,
Aquino Airfield, motor transport on Itri-Pico road and on
road North of Rome in Bolsena and Capranica areas, roads near
Tarquinia, rail facilities at Cisterna di Latina, trains between
Pescara and Benedello, and guns and troops near Cercemaggiore.
Fourteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb warehouse area and railroad
yards at Myitkyina.
Fifth Air Force. Allied Air Force begins major air offensive
against Rabaul with aim of isolating and neutralising Bismarck
Archipelago. Almost 350 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, B-25
Mitchell medium bombers, P-38 Lightning fighters, and Royal
Australian Air Force (RAAF) aeroplanes pound the town, harbour,
and airfields in the area. More than 50 aircraft are destroyed,
3 ships are sunk and several damaged, and several small harbour
craft are sunk. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers fly small strikes
against targets on Timor and other areas of Netherlands East
Indies (NEI).
Thirteenth Air Force. 2 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers skip bomb 2 small vessels in
Matchin Bay.
