His Majesty the King, accompanied by the Secretary of State
for War, Sir James Grigg. And the Secretary of State for Air,
Sir A. Sinclair, arrived in North Africa from England, Mr.
Churchill announced Axis lost 137 ships in the Tunisian campaign,
totalling 433,400 tons.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) and Northwest African Tactical Air Force

Lampedusa Island. The island surrenders unconditionally, and
Coldstream Guards go ashore and take charge.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers hit runways at Nabire and Kaimana.
A lone B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bombs and strafes barges
South of Langemak Bay.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
fighters, along with Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF),
United States Navy (USN), and United States Marine Corps (USMC)
fighters, claim over 30 aircraft shot down during interception
of enemy strike on Guadalcanal. 6 Allied fighters are lost.
