heavy bombers attack railroads and waterways in and around
Munster.
Twelfth Air Force. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb
2 airfields at Athens. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Maritsa,
Calato, and Heraklion airfields. P-38 Lightning fighters escort
shipping off Rhodes Island, hit Antimachia airfield in Dodecanese
Islands, and attack vessels in Corfu harbour, in Cadre harbour,
and off Tivat, and hit targets in Aegean and along its East
coastline. Northwest African Tactical Bomber Force (NATBF)
and Desert Air Force (DAF) concentrate on gun positions on
both United States Fifth and British Eighth Army battlefronts.
Vehicles, railroads, and town areas also are hit. Attacks
take place Northeast of Capua, at Guglionesi, at Cassino and
Mondragone, between Rome and Terracina, and around Termoli,
Isernia, Pescara areas.
Tenth Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers pound Meza railway bridge, destroying
the 3 spans on the East end and dropping the end of a central
span into the river.
Fourteenth Air Force. 20 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 18 P-40 fighters pound docks
at Haiphong. 8 P-40 fighters bomb match factory and ammunition
dump at Tengchung; 8 others hit supply dump and targets in
Lungling area.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20
Havoc light bombers, along with Royal Australian Air Force
(RAAF) aeroplanes, again pound Sattelberg area. B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers hit Saumlakki 10-

Thirteenth Air Force. 24 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 50 P-38 Lightning fighters,
P-40 fighters, and P-39 fighters, and 50 plus Navy fighters
and dive bombers pound Kahili airfield and surrounding areas,
hitting runways, fuel dump, supply area, buildings, and Malabita
Ilill gun positions. United States aeroplanes claim 15 interceptors
shot down.
