Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that the submarine HMS Sturgeon had destroyed two Kriegsmarine supply ships.

It was announced that a British merchantman and the American steamer City of Rayville had been sunk off Australia by enemy mines. Latter was First United States loss of war.

Aircraft of Bomber and Coastal Commands attacked submarine base at Lorient, docks at Boulogne and Calais, and many aerodromes.

The war against Italy, Cairo stated that operations in Gallabat area were continuing. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Raided Assab, Keren, and Agordat.

Luftwaffe daylight activity limited to few flights by single aircraft. Bombs fell in London area, Home Counties, Eastern England, Midlands, Liverpool and north-west.

During night Luftwaffe raiders flew over widespread areas of England and Wales.

Luftwaffe lost 7 aircraft, Britain none.

The Greek War, Athens reported that Venezia Division of Alpini, on centre front in Pindus area, had been cut off, together with two regiments sent to relieve them.

Death of Mr. Chamberlain.
