Commander-In-Chief of the Mediterranean, reported that he
had made contact east of Malta, where the Italian forces,
including two battleships and a number of cruisers, the Italians
immediately retired behind a smoke screen, but a hit was obtained
on one battleship. Cruiser hit by a torpedo from fleet air
arm aircraft. Italians were being pursued. In another part
of the Mediterranean, The submarine HMS Parthian sank an Italian
U-boat.
Another British naval force based on Gibraltar carried out
a sweep towards central Mediterranean, for enemy aircraft
were destroyed and three heavily damaged.
Coastal command aircraft attacked enemy shipping of the Danish
coast, including two minesweepers, one of which was damaged,
and to supply ships, both of which suffered damage.
Coastal command bombers attacked Bergen. Another formation
bombed aircraft on Sola aerodrome at Stavanger. The British
Royal Air Force (RAF) made night raids on naval dockyards
at Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, the insurance in the Ruhr, oil refineries
at Manheim, and aerodromes at Borkum, Texel, Schiphol and
Waalhaven.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) raids were reported on Diredawa,
Zula and Massawa, Italian East Africa considerable damage
being done.
Italian columns endeavouring to raise siege to Fort Capuzzo,
Western desert, successfully engaged.
Eight Luftwaffe aircraft brought down, one of which was towed
in, and several others severely damaged during raids on various
parts of Britain. Some damage done to premises at Bristol
Channel port. Six people killed in a Welsh area.
House of Commons approved further vote of credit of 1, 000,
000,000 for war expenditure.
