Events On This Day

Paris reported artillery fire in the region west of Vosges.

Five Luftwaffe planes were brought down, one of them a Messerschmitt Bf 109, by the British Royal Air Force (RAF).

The British air ministry announced that during a patrol over the North sea the British Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft encountered Luftwaffe fighters and an engagement took place. One German plane was destroyed and at least one other believed damaged. Two British machines failed to return to their base.

It was reported that lighthouses are on Duncansby Head, Caithness, and on island of Stroma had been attacked last week by Luftwaffe bombers returning from Scapa Flow. There were no casualties.
