British and French troops who took part in Norwegian campaign
landed at Scottish ports and were welcomed by General Ironside,
Chief of the Imperial General staff, and by General Millhauser,
of the French army.
Germans reported to be consolidating their positions in southern
Norway, and to be sending reinforcements to Narvik by air.
North of Roeros Norwegian troops reported to be still putting
up desperate resistance against German troops advancing from
Stoeren.
Three Allied destroyers reported sunk by Luftwaffe aircraft
while providing defence for troop convoy off Norway, HMS Afridi,
French Bison, and the Polish destroyer Grom,
Germans claimed to have captured a British submarine, disabled
by a mine in the Kattegat.
Three British trawlers, Penn, Hercules and Leonora, were overdue
and presumed lost.
It was reported that the King of Sweden and Adolf
Hitler had written exchange of views during the latter
part of April.
