The British air ministry announced that the British Royal
Air Force (RAF) plane bombed a U-boat, and probably destroyed
it in Schillig Roads, Cuxhaven.
Viipuri still in Finnish hands. Defenders repulsed attacks,
both across ice on Viipuri Bight and to East of town.
Russians suffered severe losses in fighting northeast of Lake
Ladoga, and also withdrew their forces in Petsamo sector.
The league of Nations mission stated to have arrived in Helsinki
to enquire into Russian methods of warfare.
Paris reported increased activity on the Western front, and
much aerial fighting during which at least one, and probably
three Luftwaffe aircraft were brought down.
British liner Pacific Reliance was sunk by enemy action off
the west coast.
British trawler Ben Attow was sunk off the east coast of Scotland.
It was reported that two more Dutch trawlers Sint Annaland
and Rijnstroom were attacked during the weekend by German
bombers. Last named boat feared lost.
Three survivors of the Dutch coastal vessel Elziena, was sunk
by a enemy playing arrived at Port on Northeast coast.
The Swedish vessel Lagaholm was sunk.
The Italian government protested strongly against British
order that further imports of coal from Germany by sea to
be seized.
It was announced that in 100 days, ending 1 March 1940, £
1,000,000 was raised in saving certificates and defence Bonds.
