Events On This Day

The Russian air force active in the region bordering railway line to Swedish frontier.

Finns isolated a Russian battalion, part of a force sent to make contact with Russian troops at Suejaervi, north of Lake Ladoga.

Finnish warplanes dropped 3,000,000 pamphlets over Leningrad, an 3 January 1940 and carried out bombing raids on Russian island bases at Oesel and Dagoe.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made successful reconnaissance flights over north-west Germany, and patrols over seaplane bases in Heligoland Bight.

Hermann Göring
Assumes control of all German war industries and all government departments concerned with economic side of the war.

Paris reported that in lower Vosges German detachment of 100 was surprised and machine-gunned by French patrol.

The British trawler Daneden is feared lost with a crew of nine.

Reported that British liner Tuscan Star had been bombed and machine-gunned by Luftwaffe aeroplane shortly after leaving England. Raider driven off by ships anti-aircraft guns.
