Eleven ministerial changes made in government, in addition to appointment of Mr Churchill as head of committee of service. Ministers, following resignation of Lord Chatfield, minister of coordination of defence.

First British Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter in coastal defence to be lost since the war began, a Spitfire was brought down of Yorkshire coast after engaging a Heinkel He 111, which also fell into the sea.

German reconnaissance aircraft seen over the Shetlands.

Luftwaffe bombers attacked a convoy dropping 15 bombs without doing damage. They were driven off by fire from escorting warships.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) brought down to more Messerschmitt Bf 109's over the Western front.

Lord Athlone appointed governor general of Canada in succession to the late Lord Tweedsmuir.

General Sir Hugh Elles appointed ARP controller for all of Britain.
