Events On This Day

It was announced that disguised Kriegsmarine raider had been damaged in battle with the HMS Alcantara armed merchant cruiser, off Brazilian coast. The destroyer HMS Delight was reported sunk following air attack.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made daylight raids on aerodromes in Germany and on shipping. During operations one Luftwaffe fighter and a seaplane were brought down.

Two more raids by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) on Kassala when severe damage was done on machine gun and antiaircraft posts. Direct hits registered on hangars at Macaaca. Nairobi reported sharp engagement at Dobel, on Kenya Abyssinian border. Italian fighter shot 'down off Malta. One British machine brought down.

High-flying Luftwaffe raiders appeared over Southeast England. One shot down.

It was announced by the British air ministry that at least 240 raiders were destroyed during July.

Four of arrested Britons in Japan were released.
