Events On This Day

Steamer Patria sank in Haifa harbour following explosion.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Bombers attacked naval base and dockyards at Kiel and Wilhelmshaven. Other aircraft bombed docks at Hamburg and Willemsoord, seaplane base at De Mok, and several enemy aerodromes.

The war against Italy, the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Carried out reconnaissance over Sicily, Taranto and Bari. Assab on Red Sea was again bombed.

Bombs fell during day on coastal towns in South and Southeast England, but damage was slight. No night raids as weather was unfavourable.

Four Luftwaffe aircraft shot down.

The Greek War, Italian retreat fast becoming a rout. Greek advance continued along whole front. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) harassed retreating enemy and bombing his convoys and motor transports. Italians reported to be forming new line on Tomor mountains, east of Berat.

First contingent of airmen trained in Canada arrived in London.
