Kriegsmarine raider reported at large in Tasman Sea, having attacked Britishr steamer Turakina on 20 August 1940. Canadian cargo steamer Geraldine Mary reported sunk by enemy action off Irish coast. British ship. Havildar torpedoed off north coast of Ireland.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made further heavy attacks on German gun emplacements near Gris Nez. During, night British bombers raided twenty aerodromes and seaplane bases in France and Holland, railway sidings at Mannheim and objectives in the Ruhr.

ltalians reported to have reoccupied site of Fort Capuzzo.

Luftwaffe aircraft over London in early hours of morning. Many bombs dropped but damage done comparatively slight. Two cinemas and, a church hit. During the day and evening raiders operated singly in widely separated areas, including London. Machine gun attacks in Midlands. Residential areas in Southeast bombed, and damage done to Northeast coastal town. Luftwaffe lost four machines, Britain none.
