Events On This Day

The British air ministry announced that following a German raid on the Orkneys, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers, damaged a German airbase at Hornum, on the island of Sylt. Action was still in progress at midnight.

Important debates took place in both houses of parliament on Finnish peace and progress of the war.

French cabinet met in secret session.

Complete official reserve was maintained in Rome over the subject of Brenner conversations.

Mr Sumner Welles left Rome after further conversations with count Ciano.

French vessel, Capitaine Augustin and the trawler Rose Effeuillee was reported sunk.

Finnish army command issued tabulated list of war casualties. In a total of 58, 500, 15,700 were killed.

The British Admiralty announced that up to the 13 March 1940, 12,816 ships had been convoyed by the British navy, and of those only 28 had been sunk while under protection.
