Events On This Day

Skua aircraft of Fleet Air Arm attacked two Kriegsmarine transports at Haugesund, Norway, one being hit.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) carried out daylight reconnaissances over Holland and North Sea antiaircraft position near Ainsterdam and aerodrome at Flushing bombed. During night 30 German aerodromes were attacked. Other aircraft bombed naval base at Kiel, oil refinery at Hanover, power station at Zschornewitz, north of Leipzig, Dortmund Ems Canal and other lines of communication. Oil tanks near Bordeaux attacked.

War Office announced ithat British forces in Somaliland had been successfully evacuated.

During night the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers attacked Derna harbour, petrol dump at Bir el Gobi, and aerodrorne at El Gubbi.

Luftwaffe raids on Britain were , on minor scale, Five aircraft brought down. Three British fighters lost but pilots of two safe. Dock in South Wales and several aerodromes were attacked.
