The British Admiralty announced that the submarine HMS Narwhal
was reported much overdue and presumed lost.
Coastal Command aircraft attacked convoy off Borkum, registering
direct hit on Kriegsmarine destroyer. Others raided �Cherbourg
and aerodrome of Dc Kooy.
During night the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers launched
fiercest attack yet made on invasion ports.
Other forces attacked distribution centres of Osnabruck, Ehrang,
Hamm, Mannheim, and Brussels.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) launched highly successful
attack on Italian bases in Dodecanese Islands. Continuous
raids made against Italian from Western Desertf.
Luftwaffe daylight activity mainly confined to Southeast area,
few aircraft reaching London,. Bombs fell chiefly near Thames
estuary, causing damage to houses. At night antiaircraft barrage
in London was resumed. Luftwaffe raiders bombed at random
suburbs all round London, several heavy bombs fell in West
End area.
CasuaIties were heavy. Severe raid on Merseyside. Bombs also
fell on towns in Lancs, Midlands, Northeast, South West and
Home Counties. Damage done, but casualties relatively few.
Luftwaffe lost 48 aircraft. Twelve British fighters lost,
but pilots of nine safe.
