During night the British Royal Air Force (RAF) made heavy
sustained attacks on shipping, barge concentrations and military
equipment and stores at Channel ports, including Antwerp.
They also bombed supply depots at Osnabruck, Mannheim, Aachen,
Hamm, Krefeld and Brussels, and rail communications at Rheine,
Ahaus, Sundern, Husten and West-Hofen.
Gun emplacements at Cap Gris Nez and, several Luftwaffe aerodromesrwere
bombed.
Italian aircraft raided Malta butwere driven off after dog
fights.
During daylight attacks bombs were dropped in South West London.
In a south-coast town the town hall and a hospital were hit.
Damage and casualties at Brighton and Eastbourne. Church and
houses demolished at Ipswich. High-explosive bombs damaged
town in North West England. Time bomb exploded in front of
Buckingham Palace, doing only slight damage.
Night raids on London were sporadic. Bombs fell in suburbs
and outlying districts, in two of these blocks of houses were
hit. Fire started in City. Bombs damaged houses in Midlands
town. Luftwaffe lost 18 machines. Nine British fighters missing,
but pilots of six safe.
Congress finally approved Construction Bill.
