The destroyers HMS Malcolm and HMS Verity made contact. with
six German armed trawlers and three
E-boats,
Three enemy vessels to seen to be hit. The British Admiralty
announced that the cruiser HMS Transylvania had been sunk
by U-boat. The minesweeping trawler HMS Elizabeth Angela reported
sunk by air attack. Swedish steamer Mongolia sank in Kiel
Bay after explosion.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made night attacks on oil
retineries and refining plants near Bordeaux. Other bomber
formations attacked railway sidings and power station at Cologne.
Both day and night attacks were made on aerodromes in Northern
France.
ltalians launched violent attacks against British positions
in Somaliland and, after serious losses compelled our forces
to fall back.
Thirty-one, Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed in renewed. attacks
on British coasts. Seven British fighters down. but two pilots
safe. Raids made on barrage balloons at Dover, and lightship
bombed. Scattered attacks in the various areas, including
Southampton and Hastings.
