Events On This Day

Dutch report that Germans had crossed the river Meuse in Dutch province of Limburg and penetrated into Belgium, but were repulsed at Hasselt, on the Albert Canal.

Fierce fighting between Dutch troops and German parachutists

During the night the British Royal Air Force (RAF) again bombed German troop concentrations and military traffic inside Germany, near Dutch frontier.

German pressure continued west of Maastricht and in the region of Tongres. German mechanised forces attempted to drive southwards towards eastern end of Liege-Louvain Brussels railway.

Fighting started again on southern Luxembourg frontier. German forces also attacked French advanced positions near Forbach.

The British Admiralty announced that the submarine HMS Seal was overdue and considered lost.

Home Secretary ordered internment of all male enemy aliens. Between the ages of 16 and 60 in the area extending down the entire east coast and along the south coast.

Dutch steamer Van Rensselaer was Mined.
