Convoy off East coast of Scotland attacked twice by bombers
but reached its destination.
During night the British Royal Air Force (RAF) secured repeated
hits on Potsdam railway station, Berlin. Attacks also made
on docks and airframe factory at Bremen, and naval barracks
at Wilhelmshaven. Other formations bombed barge concentrations,
docks and harbours on French, Belgian and Dutch coasts, gun
emplacements at Cap Gris Nez, railway targets at Duisberg
and Brussels, and many aerodromes.
German reports stated that Reichstag and many other public
buildings had been hit.
Aerodromes and harbours in East Libya and Eritrea bombed by
the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Italians made ineffectual
raids on Matruh and Khartum.
Daytime Luftwaffe reconnaissance raiders appeared over central
London. No bombs dropped, but some fell in Kent, Sussex and
East Anglia. Luftwaffe aircraft also reported over a Welsh
town. Town on south bank of Thames Estuary attacked.
Delayed-action bomb seriously damaged north-west wing of Buckingham
Palace. Night raid on London began at 8.14 p.m. Incendiary
bombs started many fires, but only one major one. Damage and
casualties less than during preceding night. Large East London
maternity hospital hit, as well as hospital in Central district
Church in Central London burnt o the ground. Bond St. and
Burlington Arcade hit. Two Luftwaffe bombers shot down. Long-range
guns on both sides of Straits of Dover resumed shelling in
early morning.
