Events On This Day

Russia claimed capture of Repola, Northeast of Viipuri, and of two other towns. Russian troops said to have occupied Karppila and Ruhela on Western coast of Bay of Viipuri and also certain islands.

Helsinki announced officially that contact between the government of Finland on that of USSR had been established through mediation of Sweden, and that a Finnish delegation, including the Premier, M Ryti had arrived in Moscow.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) machines carried out successful reconnaissance flights over Vienna and Prague.

The British Admiralty announced that German the steamer Hannover had scuttled herself after being intercepted by a British cruiser.

Mr Sumner Welles arrived in London.

Joachim von Ribbentrop had an interview with Mussolini.
