The Polish resistance continued in Warsaw andModlin, with
appalling loss of life and destruction to buildings.
French artillery began the first bombardments of the Rhine
fortifications. There were air battles in Saar region
Zeppelin base at Friedrichshafen, near the Swiss frontier,
was stated to have been bombed by French aircraft.
It was reported that further reconnaissance flights had taken
place over Western Germany on

September 1939 and during the course of the night propaganda
leaflets were dropped.

The Swedish steamer Silesia, torpedoed off Stavanger.
All German women between the ages of 17 and 25, to be conscripted
for obligatory national labour service.
Turkish Foreign Minister, M Saradjoglu, arrived in Moscow.
