Events On This Day

Over 200 drifting mine is washed up on the Yorkshire coast.

Luftwaffe aircraft made to raids over the Shetlands. No bombs were dropped.

The British Admiralty announced that the cruiser HMS Belfast, was damaged on 21 November 1939 by torpedo or mine in Firth of Forth.

The British steamer Mangalore was sunk by a mine off the east coast.

Five survivors of the Dutch tanker Sliedrecht, sunk by a U-boat in the Atlantic and picked up after 7 1/2 days in an open boat.

Paris announced that a small French submarine chaser at some U-boat.

Belgian government addressed a letter to Britain on the subject of British reprisals against minelaying.

Two British subjects, Mr Best and Major Stevens, kidnapped at the Dutch frontier on 21 November 1939 by Gestapo for alleged complicity in Munich bomb explosion, are believed to have been authorised by British government to enquire into genuineness of certain German peace proposals.

The German liner Watussi, thought to be a supply ship for the raider in East African waters left Mozambique on Thursday night.

First British Royal Air Force (RAF) man to be decorated by France for gallantry in this war died in hospital. Sergeant Observer, J. Vickers, awarded the Médaille Militaire.
