Events On This Day

There were further air raids on Helsinki and other towns. Finnish communiqué claimed that all Russian attacks have been repulsed along the southern, eastern frontier, and nearly all on the Karelian Isthmus that 1200 prisoners were captured, a destroyers sunk by a Finnish coastal battery, 19 tanks, and at least 16 aircraft shot down.

New Finnish cabinet formed with Dr Risto Ryti as Prime Minister.

Molotov refused to negotiate with the new Finnish cabinet.

Russia set up a puppet Finnish People's government at Terijoki in the Karelian Isthmus.

President Roosevelt, formally condemned the action of the Russian invasion into Finnish territory.

The British steamer Dalryanwas mined of the southeast coast.

The Finnish steamer Mercator was mined off the Scottish coast.

The Norwegian steamer Realf was reported sunk in the North sea.

In Britain men of the third age group libel service called up.

It was announced that a full Royal Australian Air Force squadron would be ready for active service with the coastal command early in the new year.
