Events On This Day

The Finnish delegation left Moscow to report to the government in Helsinki.

The British Admiralty announced that HMS Royal Oak had been sunk, presumably by a U-boat.

Two French steamers Louisiane and Bretagne and one British steamer Lockavon sunk by U-boats.

Signor Bastianini, new Italian ambassador arrived in London.

U-47 commanded by Günther Prien attacks a strongly defended naval base of Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands and sinks the British battleship HMS Royal Oak.
