Events On This Day

Renewed Russian attacks on Karelian Isthmus were repulsed. On the central bottleneck front the Finns claimed the recapture of Suomussalmi. Fighting continued in the Petsamo area.

The league of Nations urged Russia to cease from hostilities within the next 24 hours.

It was officially stated that four British steamships Ashlea, Newton Beech, Huntsman and Trevanion were now long overdue and must be considered lost.

The British steamer Willowpool struck a mine in the North sea.

The Greek steamer Garoufalia was torpedoed off Norway.

Luftwaffe aircraft were seen off the southeast coast and over the Yorkshire coast. A German barrage balloon came down in the Shetlands.

Adolf Hitler meets Norwegian politician Vidkun Quisling founder of the National Union a pro-Nazi movement.
