Adolf Hitler on 9 September 1936, announced a four year plan for economic and military revival under the supervision of Hermann Göring. Hjalmar Schlat, the Reich Minister of Economics, insultingly was not notified of the plan until it was publicly announced

On 10 September 1936, Dornier Do 18 flying boat Zephir piloted by Lufthansa Flugkapitän Blankenburg was launched from the Kriegsmarine seaplane tender Schwabenland by catapult in the Azores. Dornier Do 18 flying boat Aeolus was launched just after.

On 11 September 1936, Dornier Do 18 flying boat Aeolus arrived at Hamilton, Bermuda from the Azores after a 18 hours ant 15 minutes flight. Several hours later, Dornier Do 18 flying boat Zephir arrived in New York United States of America from the Azores after a 22 hours and 12 minutes flight

On 22 September 1936 Dornier Do 18 flying boat Aeolus arrived at Horta, Azores from Hamilton, Bermuda after a 17 hours and 50 minutes flight.
