Events On This Day

Russian Front. In Kharkov direction Russians consolidated positions, in lzyum-Barvenkovo area fierce Wehrmacht attacks were repelled.

In Africa. Large enemy armoured force heavily engaged by our armoured forces North East of Bir Hakeim.

In Australasia. Japanese fighters engaged over Port Moresby. Allied bombers raid Rabaul.

Attempt on life of Reinhard Heydrich at Prague leads to drastic reprisals in Czech Protectorate. As reprisal for murder of two Germans in Lithuania, 400 persons, mostly Poles, executed in Kovno.

Lieut General. B. B. Somervell, Chief of United States. Army Supply Services, arrived here.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb base at Rabaul.

Zone of Interior. 54th Fighter Group begins deployment from La to strengthen defence of West coast.
