The Germans made extensive use of air transport to move, supply, and reinforce troops. Air transport was used to drop airborne troops behind enemy lines such operations caused confusion among enemy formations, and empowered the attacking German troops with the initiative. Air transport also proved invaluable in delivering, supplying and maintaining isolated or cut off units from the air.
